Zirconium crowns
Crowns, or caps, are, as their name suggests, a full tooth covering that simulates the entire crown anatomy. Their thickness ranges from 1-1.8 mm.
They can be made solely of porcelain or with a core of another material, such as metal, for greater strength. However, the most aesthetic and high-performance option is the newer zirconium.
Zirconium caps are placed over the teeth, performing an important aesthetic and functional role. They are the most aesthetic option because they are metal-free and do not leave an unsightly dark line between the tooth and the gum.
When to wear crowns?
- For children, special metal crowns are used to wait for the tooth to mature.
- In adults they are used when the size of the caries is so large that the restoration with a filling alone would not work.
- After endodontics, when it has been necessary to place screws in the root of the tooth or in teeth at risk of fracture.
- When teeth are missing.
